Check the Contest First
Not every contest has captain choices. If it does, read how their points are counted before choosing.
Choose After the Toss
You need the confirmed XI and the batting order. A captain chosen the night before and never revisited is a common mistake.
What Makes a Strong Captain
- In the confirmed XI.
- Role unchanged after the toss.
- Can contribute in two ways (bat and bowl, or bat and keep).
- Conditions suit him.
Pairing the Vice-Captain
Pick someone whose good day doesn't depend on the same thing. Two openers from the side batting first can both fail in one collapse. A batter from one side and a bowler from the other spreads the risk.
Popular or Different?
Choosing the obvious captain keeps you level if he does well. Choosing someone different can gain ground when conditions clearly suit him, and lose it when they don't. Decide deliberately.
If Things Change Late
If your captain is left out or loses his role, choose again from your strongest confirmed players, not the next famous name.
